Our
Family Services Team support a group of young parents who have been the
spotlight recently; meeting an Inspector and a Councillor, and in a
theatre project.
The
Young Parents Group, which is supported by First Steps’ outreach worker
Jo Horseman and volunteer Kirsty Horseman, have been involved in
piloting a new project with The Egg Theatre.

Part of the Project involved parents taking their children to The Egg
Theatre, where the adults and children enjoyed themselves and had fun
doing activities based on ‘The Bear Hunt’ story, including mask making
and creating a DVD. We are delighted that The Egg Theatre has
decided to continue this project as it has proved to be very popular.
The
young parents recently met with B&NES Council’s Cabinet member for
children’s services Cllr Chris Watt who said "Bath and North East
Somerset Council is very happy to be working in partnership with the
voluntary sector to support local families. One of the Council Cabinet's
priorities is making better lives for our young people"

Finally we would like to say a big THANK YOU to three of our young
parents for all the extra help that they have given as volunteers in the
nursery at Twerton and with family services. |

Extra Security at Moorlands Children's
Centre
Over the last few months Moorlands Children's Centre has been broken
into 3 times. This has caused both staff and children much distress,
not to mention a large amount of broken glass to clear up.
Due
to this, First Steps have had to install new CCTV cameras all around the
building to increase the Children’s Centre security.
Lysha Goode, Children’s Services Manager, said "If anyone tries to break
in now, we will have the evidence to catch them. It is so sad that
criminals cause damage to a Children’s Centre that is here to help the
community".
