Our Impact

Every child deserves the chance to thrive—regardless of their background.
At First Steps, we’re making that vision a reality:

High-Quality Provision

  • 260 Children Supported Annually
Accessing high-quality early years education in our nurseries and specialist settings.
  • Whole-Child Development
Staff trained in the Thrive Approach and Language for Life nurture emotional, social, and speech development.
  • Beyond the Basics
We enrich learning with experiences outside government-funded childcare—broadening children's horizons.
  • Investing in People
With strong training and fair employment, our staff turnover is just 3%, well below the industry average.
  • Free Snacks and Meals: 1 in 5 children at our nurseries receive free hot meals and snacks through our meal programme—supporting wellbeing and learning.
  • Local Employment: 59% of our staff live locally, bringing deep community insight to their work and helping reduce our environmental footprint.
  • Inclusive Support: 41 families regularly attend our SEN stay-and-play sessions, creating a safe space for connection, shared learning, and support.

Our Theory of Change

Developed in collaboration with families, staff, and professionals, our Theory of Change clearly outlines how our services work, who they benefit, and the conditions needed for success. It reflects our commitment to thoughtful, evidence-based practice that drives meaningful outcomes for children and families.
